Westy and Sci

Today is also a coincidence to be a rainy day for me outside (except it's heavy and freezing cold). I used to like rainy days a long time ago because I could stay in my room all day but as I grow up, I'm not a big fan of the rain. However, I like light showers with the sun out, which happened one time during high school as me and a few of my classmates were waiting outside at maths class to witness a shower with bright sunlight and a rainbow over it. I remembered people called that "gay" and so bizarre because it's something you can see from an anime where the storm turns clear immediately.

Whatever they say back then, I was feeling down that time and when the sun and rainbow came out, I feel warm and fuzzy in my heart. Because of that moment in my life, I still remember it and made this artwork with bright colours to fill the emptiness and depression of the rain.

Anyway, I also received an anonymous ask yesterday on Tumblr, so I decided to continue this. Guilty, I haven't drawn this since I started working on it since 26th of February until now to finally pick up where I left off to finish this illustration. I puled this drawing idea from my traditional scraps and decided to recreate it into my digital painting style.

Westy is a scifell ship child of Science and Underfell Sans (Fell). Without spoiling, I recalled hearing about Fell was out of the picture and thought about drawing Sci with Westy only after the events. Even if nobody knows why Fell is missing or not, I still thought it's nice to see them together.

Yes, I'm aware and always I prefer to draw Sci (and Edge) in my design whenever I draw them in my drawings. Sci from Westy's family has a necklace given by Fell and wears a blue hoodie with a white turtleneck sweater. Westy also has sticky tape to hold his glasses from falling off. Regardless, this is my interpretation of seeing them as I also see other people draw their family in their own style too.

This has been one of my most saturated and colourful artwork I've made. I followed a speedpaint to start off light hues in the same value then build it up by going over it again and again. I end up with beautiful colours and use cool colours with the white.

I like referencing a little bit of something like using red and greens for the umbrella and my hidden signature if somebody dares to modify my work with the levels. You can revert this artwork and you can see reds and greens pop up from their blues and purples.

My flaw in making this is the background is too bright and close to white. I even use a lot of colour dodge and overlaying layers to bring out the water effects and rain. Lastly, I'm guilty of not adjusting the umbrella underneath Westy with Sci because I didn't originally intend to have him as he comes along to catch out with Sci then hold his hand.

Overall, I really love how it looks in the finished work. I wasn't sure where to place my visible signature at first and glad I placed it with the water and puddle background.
