Unknown Mother Goose [3126]

Inspiration, parody and original video based on → #sm35173527

  • I highly recommend anyone to check out the Niconico video until the end!
    • And if you're wondering who are the characters from the video, they're Jekyll and Hyde (from FGO). Ever since I discovered them, I can't unsee them as Sci and Edge and vice versa!

Recently, I took a break from social media because of my mental and physical health. While I was absent, I manage to spend most of my time alone looking through my old creations to find my passion for drawing again. Being away from social media gives me less pressure, expectations and so much freedom to draw. However, I still tend to overwork myself down to the bone, which scares me after knowing people can pass away from overworking, bringing me fear and a warning to take care of my health first.

I was searching for old videos I used to make and enjoy. Eventually, I went down the rabbit hole for other contents I like, such as Jekyll and Hyde (from FGO), and it brought my will back to draw again. Also, I had a fear of people may attack anyone who likes scifell (and any other creations I like) just because of a certain artist's previous influence and association with it.

Right now, I'm more confident to continue creating scifell content for myself. Even though I was highly inspired by a particular artist... my interpretation, version, inspiration, ideas, work, creations, and everything I love and make for scifell will and always be mine to begin with.

Update: 2023-09-29

After reading the artist's response to controversies, my scepticism has ceased and no longer have the anxious fear from the drama inside my head.

Despite everything, I'm still confident to keep creating scifell contents of mine.

Now, you may be wondering why I drew this parody fanart. To tell you the truth, I didn't have a reason at first, other than just attempting to draw Sci and Edge from a particular screenshot and outfit of the music video. My body moved on its own with my mind wandering free and taken away at the moment as I draw.

There's also another MMD of Jekyll and Hyde made by the same video creator (進撃の暇人) I'm using as inspiration, but "Unknown Mother Goose" has a bigger place in my heart and is more fitting with everything I said in this post — it's actually one of my favourite songs by wowaka. The song is usually fitting for my version of Lust, but the music video and animation give me a new perspective that I can see Sci and Edge performing together with that song.

Understanding the lyrics and song's meaning from the original music composer (wowaka) breaks my heart because it's relatable as a content creator and it can happen to anyone. Sometimes, when artists create and share their content, there are people who don't appreciate or aren't able to see the artist behind the work — even to the point people only care about the fictional characters over the creator.

Because of the gratitude and appreciation mindset for the creators first, I had a few difficult times separating some people from their work, like the artist I was talking about earlier.

However, like the message from the song, I'm protective of my work — especially for scifell — and feel unhappy whenever people use my content without my permission or not even giving proper credit for using my work. But today, I had a conversation at an appointment about selling art commissions as a hobby to understand whatever I make for the client can be used however they freely wish to do with it after payment.

It's the harsh truth and reality that I have to accept, but those who care and respect the creators behind their work mean a lot more to them than you think. Even if you only like my art, I'm happier to believe I give you meaning and a part of my life shared with it, such as finding invisible inks and secrets behind some of my drawings — too bad there isn't any in this illustration, just my watermark!

I believe this is my first scifell fanart of 2023 and it took me 7 hours to complete on an A4 canvas size! I tried not to worry about the lineart and imperfections of my drawing, but I can't help it in the end because it was no longer a sketch I drew on a whim. However, I liked how it felt, feeling at ease in the breeze and not worrying over smaller details before fixing the mistakes in the later stage of progress.

The pose is questionable to anyone who doesn't get the reference of the video it's based on, but I'm not too keen about it and believe people will eventually recognise it — check it out if you haven't seen it yet!

I still miss some minor details I forgot to fix before bed, but I'm forcing myself to accept it as a finished illustration completed in one night. Either way, the drawing is also for anatomy practice and I should be proud that it looks good, especially Edge with a complicated pose and slightly different body shape than Sci.
