Step-by-Step Progression

I had a different large illustration piece with multiple characters that I wanted to submit first, but it was time-consuming after four whole days working on it and decided to draw this character instead. I also skip using Adobe Illustrator since most people don't know or use vector art.

Originally, this was going to be a quick sketch, but I ended up working with more details than before, taking around five hours — and an additional hour for pixel sprites — to complete.

I immediately picked this character, Astro by thinkkarl out of my followers on Art Fight because I was looking for any skeleton or original character based on Sans from my opposing team.

Thanks to their character sheet, I was able to work on a concept of their character recently waking up from their sleep. They mentioned Astro loves to sleep and yawns constantly, giving them a sleepy pose. They're also an astronomy nerd and like the colour purple, so I stuck with their purple colour palette with yellow accents used for star pillows. Overall, I intended to make a space-themed bedroom for Astro to wake up from, but I discarded the decoration of starry hanging lights and have them sleeping on actual clouds in outer space.

While waiting for more votes on my story on what type of background should this illustration be, I went ahead making pixel sprites of Astro based on DanganRonpa (and my AU; the pixel template for every Sans-es). They're bonus assets I didn't need to make at all, but I thought it'd be nice to make some as additional gifts!
